Yesterday Charles Hartfield also known as Chucky or ChuckyHart was laid to rest at Palms Downtown Mortuary and Cemetery. Hartfield was an off-duty Las Vegas Police Officer murdered in last Sunday’s mass shooting. He was also a youth football coach and an author who recently released a book about his life on the force. As his body was taken from the Clark County Coroner’s Office to his place of rest, police vehicles lined the street. Officers from Metro and North Las Vegas stood on the sidewalks saluting in tears as his body passed them. Hartfield served 16 years in the military and 11 years on the force. He was also assigned to the 100th Quartermaster Company as a first class sergeant in the Nevada Army National Guard. The Amazon page for his book described him as a public servant from the early age of 18 who was committed to bridging the gap with no filters or shaded perceptions.
Brigadier General William Burk of Nevada National Guard says, “He was the epitome of a citizen soldier and he lived to serve the public and protect his family.” The Las Vegas Police Protective Association will host a candlelight vigil tonight for Hartfield at the Police Memorial Park located at 3250 Metro Academy Way in Las Vegas from 6 pm to 7 pm. The vigil is open to the public.
