Our Metropolis is a weekly half-hour issues and affairs program hosted by UNLV journalism professor, Gary Larson, devoted to bringing the issues, personalities, and places of Las Vegas and beyond to our listeners. This week host Gary Larson sits down with regular panelists UNLV Political Science Professor David Damore and managing director of The Nevada Independent Elizabeth Thompson to discuss accusations of sexual harassment against Nevada Representative Ruben Kihuen. They also discuss Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s recommendation to shrink the Gold Butte National Monument and Nevada’s standing in the recently released America’s Health Ranking report.

This past year President Donald Trump rescinded the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program putting 800,000 undocumented youth in risk of deportation. Democrats are now hoping to pass The Dream Act in its place by the end of the year. In this segment, host Gary Larson sits down with immigration organizer Erika Castro to discuss how the future of this legislation will affect immigrant communities in Nevada and across the country.

They also discuss NV Energy’s decision not to raise the fixed electric costs for large amount of its customers.

Our Metropolis (November 14, 2017): Solar Decathlon 2017

This week host Gary Larson sits down with regular panelist David Damore to discuss Monday night’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Raider’s new $1.9 billion stadium. They also discuss security on the Las Vegas Strip including the installation of steel bollards meant to prevent attacks involving vehicles driving into crowds of pedestrians. In addition, they discuss an attempt by the City of Reno to file a lawsuit against opiod producers.
