After an eight-hour special meeting, the Clark County School District Board of School Trustees voted on May 2 to appoint Dr. Jesus Jara as the district’s new superintendent. The board is currently in contract negotiations with Jara to formalize his appointment.
Jara will begin in June, prior to current Superintendent Pat Skorkwosky’s departure. Skorkowsky will help Jara transition into the role of the superintendent of the nation’s fifth largest school district.
Jara was selected from six finalists vetted by the Ray and Associates search firm among a pool of 77 applicants. Jara along with the other six finalists met with community members at an April 28 public meeting.
“I’m humbled and honored to be chosen as the next superintendent of the Clark County School District, and my excitement for the job has only grown seeing the passion of the entire CCSD community firsthand,” said Jara in a statement.
