Sophia Smith is founder of the Strong Arm Foundation, a Las Vegas charity focussed on filling the artistic and recreational needs of disadvantaged kids in Southern Nevada. Shapiro’s band is playing a benefit sow for the Foundation on Monday night at The Space, the Las Vegas community performance complex at 3460 Cavaretta Court.
Melody Sweets of “Absinthe” is performing her third solo show, “The Sweets’ Spot,” at Smith Center’s Cabaret Jazz. The show is set for 9:30 p.m. May 22, with consummate Las Vegas bandleader and showman Lon Bronson serving as music director. Guest stars include famed burlesque comic Murray Hill, twin tappers Sean and John Scott (also of “Absinthe”) burlesque star LouLou D’Vil, and pinup model and performer Bettina May.
Clint Holmes is opening his new show at Golden Nugget on May 9, and Lannie Counts is a regular with Santa Fe & The Fat City Horns at the Lounge at the Palms. The two are collaborating Saturday night for “Cooke,” Counts’ tribute to the great Sam Cooke, his first headlining show in Las Vegas.
Enoch Augustus Scott of “Zombie Burlesque” and Anne Martinez of “Baz,” “The World’s Greatest Rock Show” and “Fantasy” are two of the city’s favorite stage performers. They are teaming this weekend for the opening of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at the Courtyard at House of Blues. The rock musical is inspired, edgy and talented. Does it have staying power on the Strip?
