Happy Birthday UNLV!

 

UNLV is celebrating its 60th anniversary this week.  UNLV opened in 1957 with 29 students graduating in the first commencement ceremony in 1964.  Today UNLV has 3,000 full time faculty and 30,000 students and has grown to become a national ranked college, setting standards and examples for peer institutions around the world.  UNLV athletic program started with a bowling team and now have over a dozen.  Not only will UNLV be sharing a stadium soon with an NFL franchise but they also are partnered with CBS Sports Digital and Emerge, among other major accomplishments.  A host of events are planned this week that include:

 

Today from 2:30 pm to 3:25 pm undergraduate students can take advantage of the “Let’s Get This Transition Started!” to help students understand the transition from high school to college at The Coaching Spot building SSC – A in Room 254.

 

Tomorrow UNLV is having its official birthday party at the Pida Plaza with a photo booth, cake, live DJ and more from 2 pm to 5 pm.

 

Tomorrow at 2:30 pm inside the Judy Bayley Theatre, President Len Jessup will share highlights from UNLV’s 60 year history and showcasing its transformation into a top-tier university and what lies ahead for the university.  This event is open to the public and all staff, students and faculty with a reception following his address.

 

UNLV Undie Run is this Wednesday at 10 pm to celebrate body positivity at the 5th annual event with a free mile run around campus and party afterwards with a live DJ at the Dayton Complex Courtyard.  Donations of clothing are welcome to support Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.

 

This Thursday, UNLV Student Wellness, UNLV Department of Wellness Promotion and the Healthy Rebels are sponsoring the UNLV Wellness Expo that brings students and community resources together to support student success through health and wellness.  There will be free t-shirts, blood pressure checks, flu shots and raffle prizes like Beats headphones, a parking pass and a Fitbit.  The event is free but you must be a UNLV student to enter the raffle.  The event takes place inside the Student Recreation and Wellness Center lobby from 10 am to 2 pm.

 

The UNLV Performing Arts Center and the School of Music invites you to their first concert of the season, “The Dorian Wind Quintet” Thursday at 7:30 pm inside the Performing Arts Center.  Tickets are available at the box office for only $5 for students.

 

This Friday from 3 pm to 6:30 pm DASH (Delivering and Serving Hope) is hosting a Service Project inside the Student Union on the first floor to help students learn more about homelessness and hunger in our community.  They will also be making and delivering sack lunches to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.
