April 3 proclaimed UNLV Lady Rebels Day

UNLV Lady Rebel Katie Powell

UNLV Lady Rebels received a proclamation this week that named April 3, 2018 as “UNLV Lady Rebels Day” by the Clark County Board of Commissioners.  The Lady Rebels were the Mountain West Conference champions and represented the university in the Women’s NIT. Paris Strawther and Katie Powell joined two other players, assistant coaches and head coach and UNLV alumni Kathy Olivier in receiving the honor  from the Commission. Olivier explained how not all players were there because they pride themselves on excelling on the court as well as in the classroom, so the other players were in class during the event. Three players received MW All-Conference honors while senior guard Brooke Johnson was named the MW Defensive Player of the Year.  Other honorees by the Commission was the Clark County Museum, the Nevada Victims of Crime Program, Silverstate Fair Housing Council and Armin Vandamme for his work with at-risk youth and helping kids with boxing skills as an outlet. 4342574028881384
